After months of waiting and anticipating our very own Casa Ole has opened! I will no longer have to trek to Temple or Waco for a green sauce fix, I will mearly have to drive a few miles to get my cheese enchiladas, taco plate, nachos or "wet burrito" and basket upon basket up chips and green sauce. But lets not forget about the red sauce....... I can taste it now......
Upon our first visit to tex-mex paradise we (being me, Marleene and my parents) found an unusual setting. A wait. "How long is the wait?" I asked the overwhelemed girl at the front after wading through a sea of hungry Georgetownians, "It will be about 45 minutes." The girl replied. I looked at my band of Casa craving compadres and said "45 minutes, you wanna wait?" A resounding "Yes" came back my way. So wait we did, and it was 45 minutes almost exactly before we got our fill of chips and sauce. But oh how it was worth it, I savored every ounce of green and red as I shoveled chip after chip into my mouth, making my taste buds rejoice and give thanks. Basket upon basket they brought us, with no end in sight. As I sat filling my belly with the good stuff, I mearly glanced at the menu to make sure there were no suprises to be found, and once realizing there was not, I settled on an old friend, the El Paso. 2 cheese enchiladas, one with queso and one with sauce, rice, beans and a taco. The staple for me and my bride (of course being the queso lover she is, she always requests queso on both enchiladas).
Our orders came and the meal was incredible right down to the last bite. It was made more "authentic" by the live music that was taking place next to our table. Apparently at our new Casa there will be live music every Saturday night, leave it to the Austin area to try and improve on the once thought un-improveable. But it was nice, what looked like 3 generations of guitar players decked out in their brown spanish suits with the eldest belting out his "ay yay yay yaaaayyyysssss" for half an hour.
We left with full bellies and I with thoughts of "holy cow, I drive right by here everyday on my way home from work, this could get interesting, green and red sauce to go please. Mmmmmmm green sauce........" We have not been back yet, but I for one am certainly looking forward to our next visit, where hopefully the wait will be shorter and the food will be as good as ever. Maybe our next trip will be shared with friends or family, maybe a Moose or two, who knows. But what I do know is this, I may not be able to refrain from the call of the green sauce for too much longer. It is a call that wakes me in the middle of the night, calls out to me as Im driving to work, sings to me a wonderfully sweet song when all else is quiet.
And now, when I get the craving, I know that I wont have to push it asaide with thoughts of "I cant drive that far just for green sauce." No, now let the cravings come, for I am not afraid. When they wake me in the night I can go back to sleep knowing that it is just a short drive to the promised land, and my mind will be at ease. Thank you Casa Ole, thank you green sauce.
