Vacation

Well for those of you who didnt know, Marleene and I just got back from a week long vacation in beautiful Corpus Christi, Texas. We headed down there on Friday the 12th and came back home on Friday the 19th. We were accompanied by my mom, Matt, Dawn and Levi, and we had a great time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45004361@N00/ view here to see some pictures from the vacation.

I had never gone to the beach except in the summer, and man was it nice to be there when the temps were in the high 80's- low 90's. The beaches were pretty deserted, especially during the week days because all the kids were in school. The waves were really good (for Texas) so there was much boogie boarding and body surfing. We stayed at the condo where my grandparents have a time share (La Casa del Sol) and were able to get two rooms right next door to each other.

The fishing was not that great, but we had a good time doing a whole lot of nothing. It was nice to get away and relax, not have a schedule to keep, no phone calls or emails. Nothing but sit, read, watch tv, fish, go to the beach, go to the pool, repeat!

They even had a restaraunt named after me! All in all we had a superb time, and didnt want to leave.

Finally a real back yard!

For any of you who have been to our house in Leander you know about our awful back yard situation. The guy who lived there before us made the yard into a playground area, a place for an above ground pool and a place for a trampoline. Not to mention a BBQ grill and lamp post concreted into the ground. The lamp post was pretty cool, but hey, this ain't Narnia!
That was my back yard. A pain to no end, an eye sore, the bane of my existence.... maybe that's going a bit far, but nonetheless I did not like my back yard. Dreams of solid green, a full yard of grass filled my head. Reality of not having any where to dispose of tons of rock and boulders set in quickly. Not to mention the fact that it would be a heck of a lot of back breaking work to clean that mess up. Ah the joys of working for a landscape company...
Behold, my new back yard.... in progress!
I had a few of our workers come over to clean the mess up for me, and in a span of 2 days they got the job done. One day for removing the rock and getting the area ready for grass, and the next day to lay the grass.

And man oh man does it look awesome. Its amazing how it makes the yard feel so much bigger. Maggie and Zoe are loving it, and Marleene and I love to look out into the back and marvel at our new yard.
