December of 2006 I decided it was time to get the bug back up and running. For those of you who have known me since before 2000 you will remember my 1966 Volkswagen Beetle, and all the trouble it gave me through the years I drove it. Well when engine #3 went out on me back in the summer of '00 I decided it was time to get something a little more reliable, and the bug sat at my parents house until that fateful '06 December. So, long story short, I got the engine rebuilt with grand ideas of fixing the car up and driving it for fun, not as every day transport. Well, the engine was rebuilt but my passion wanned and the bug sat in my garage for about a year. Until I met a guy who told me about a group of VW people in the Austin area who are part of a group or "gang" as they call it, called the Aircoolers. So again, long story short, I joined up with this group and have found a guy who is willing to help me work on the bug and "teach" me a thing or two along the way.
This past Friday, after having spent a couple months trying to figure out why the bug would die on me at random times (loose wire), we got around to some fun stuff, we lowered the front end.

This is a before picture of the bug, notice the amount of space above the front tire before the fender, probably 3"-4".

And after, the top of the tire is inside the fender.
Next project will be to work on the interior, since it seems like most of it is original, it could use a bit of work.

Wow, that looks great! Did you repaint it, too? Excellent work, my friend. Was engine #3 the one that died on the way to Casa Ole?
Thanks Mr Moose! The paint job is not new, at least not recent, got it repainted after engine #2 blew up and burned the back end.
It is very likely that it was engine #3 that died out on my on the way to Casa Ole, but that was not the last time it drove, it finally died for good on my way home one night.
Nice Doc. Oh the memories from that thing. I mean come on, that bad boy almost killed Brian Skinner! Well, its more like Skinner almost killed the bug is what would have happened. Like the drop job.
