Will Smith = Huge Movie Success
Will Smith + July 4th Opening Weekend = Super Huge Movie Success
Hancock, newest Will Smith movie, opened over July 4th weekend, and I went and saw it with some friends from church earlier this week. I dont normally like going to the full price theatre, I mean $8.50 for a movie? Its ridiculous, but there I was anywho with the friends, enjoying a pretty good movie.
From all the previews I had seen I went in with a healthy amount of expectations: Will Smith at his comic best, lots of action, finally seeing a "super hero" who had no weakness and could stop a train dead in its tracks... I mean come on, who hasnt wondered why Superman has to struggle to stop a speeding train? I wasnt dissapointed by Hancock like I was with "the Happening." Where I think the Happening had much more TV hype, I dont remember seeing more than just a few TV spots for Hancock. Like I said earlier, Will Smith = Huge Movie Success. But with that comes its own hype, and Hancock lived up to the hype for the most part. Is it better than Men in Black or Independence Day? I dunno, maybe, different, real different than those.
Basically you have Will Smith who is a "super hero" who doesnt care about what people think about him. He seems to have no weakness, he drinks whisky by the bottle and lives in a trailer overlooking a canyon. He stops crime, but the people of LA dont like the way he does it, usually it entails a lot of clean up afterwards, but Hancock doesnt seem to mind. The movie starts out pretty quick, with Hancock flying to the rescue to stop a police chase by attaching the fleeing vehicle and its inhabitants some hundreds of feet in the air on a tower of sorts. The plot is pretty good, I mean, its a summer blockbuster movie, it wont be winning any Oscars, but its enjoyable. And it has a better twist than previously mentioned The Happening.
I give Hancock 5 stars for enjoyablility, 4 stars for re-watch-ability, 2 stars for length (fairly short movie, 1 1/2 hour) and 5 stars for Will Smith being a kick butt super hero.
